What is a phoneme? if you any that end in ough or ugh, have ough or ugh in the word?

In addition, the word though has two phonemes: 1) the sound represented by the letters <th> and 2) the sound represented by the letters <ough>. A phoneme is the smallest, distinctive unit of sound. For example,
man (3 phonemes)
thought (3 phonemes)
little (3 phonemes)
Here's a way to find the number of phonemes. Pronounce the word:
man => [m], [ae], [n] (3 phonemes)
