1-For going to England, I had the choice between taking a plane and taking a ship.
2-To go to England, I had the choice between taking a plane and taking a ship.
3-In order to go to England, I had the choice between taking a plane and taking a ship,

I agree with TDOL. (The first one is rather awkward.)
