    Default what does "drop" mean in this sentence?

    my question is
    "that's when the D.J. dropped my favorite tune and a Britney song was on"
    "drop" what does it mean? D.J paly this song or stop this song?

    To me, it means play, s they started playing it before the Britney track had finished.
