overcome
Dear teachers,
Would you be kind enough to give me a leg up with the interpretation of the expressions in bold in the following sentences?
And the kind creature retreated into the garden, overcome with emotion. (Vanity Fair)
I was overcome with grief and rage.
He was overcome.
Many people were overcome by fumes from the burning factory.
overcome = enveloped, seized, gripped with; overcome, as with emotions or perceptual stimuli
She managed to overcome her shyness.
overcome = get on top of; deal with successfully
We shall overcome.
overcome = vanquish, conquer, beat, win a victory over
Thanks for your efforts.
Regards,
V.
