I always tell my girl to make sure beforehand that she has a good man and true, and the chance will neither make her nor break her.my question is :what is the function of "and true"?

'A good man and true' is a rather literary way of saying 'a good and honest man'.

I don't know the relationship between true and honest.Thus we can say a good and handsome man or a good and polite man etc.Thanks!
