preservation / go-for-broke
Dear teachers,
Would you be kind enough to tell me whether I am right with my interpretation of the expression in bold in the following sentence?
Should the focus not now be on the smart preservation of American power, rather than on the go-for-broke maximization of it as seems the current game plan?
preservation = the activity of protecting something from loss or danger
go-for-broke = risking everything on one great effort to win big
Thanks for your efforts.
Regards,
V.

Yes, but the key word to me is smart.
