What is the proper way to write the time of day? Are there different rules for different media?

    Welcome to the board, Marked.

Living in the USA you will have seen the time written as 7 A.M. or 9.30 P.M.

Here in the UK we write 7am or 9.30pm.

You can also write 8 o'clock, quarter past 9, 25 to ten etc.

There's also the 24 hour clock way of writing times, where 1300 or 13:00 means 1 o'clock in the afternoon.
