    Default stay put

    Dear teachers,

Would you be kind enough to tell me whether I am right with my interpretation of the expression in bold in the following sentence?

For a long time, Putin held back, letting everyone stay put. Then, suddenly, things started happening.
stay put = remain in place; freeze in place

    Thanks for your efforts.

    Regards,

    V.
