Re: The You are not talking about any food. You are talking about the food at that restaurant. That is, you specify what food you are talking about.

An example sentence; Food is indispensable for human life.
Ask yourself ; Which food is indispensable?
Answer: Food, in general, not a specific food.
Another example:
1) Food is bad. Ask yourself, can food be bad? No, sure it can't. Because if we don't eat we die.
2) The food is bad. Ask yourself, can the food be bad? Well, it lookes that way, it looks very unhealty, I'd better not eat it.
