Dear teachers,
Would you be kind enough to tell me whether I am right with my interpretation of the expressions in bold in the following sentence?
All the world used her ill, said this young misanthropist, and we may be pretty certain that persons whom all the world treats ill, deserve entirely the treatment they get.
all the world used her ill = all the world behave towards her bad
Thanks for your efforts.
Regards,
V.
Treated the person badly.
This sounds very old-fashioned.
I'm not a teacher, but I write for a living. Please don't ask me about 2nd conditionals, but I'm a safe bet for what reads well in (American) English.
