    Default deliberately and without direction

when I first mastered it, drew some applause, for I declared that to do it I had to put myself into a trance; and this was not quite a lie, for I did deliberately empty my mind and let my fingers work without direction.

What can I say deliberately and without direction?

Can I say wholly for deliberately and freely for without direction?

You could use "freely" instead of "without direction", but "wholly" does not mean "deliberately". You could use "purposefully".
