1900 was the first year of the new century.
...and round the year thus confidently healded = To hearld is to announce. The new year has been looked to as being a good year. The signs of the Zodiac were arranged (month-to-month or sign-to- sign) around the diagram of the new year.
winged with hope, clustered the signs of the zodiac = There are 12 signs of the zodiac each roughly a month long. Some people believe that the sign they are born under (their birthday) has an influence of their lives. The clustered the signs part means that the signs of the Zodiac were arranged next to each other.
The final part = Each part of the Zodiac was working or planning (contriving) to show a good (plenitude, plenty) life full of power. Each was wonderful, but they were different from each other in how they were.
Could you helping me to get the signed parts? By the way, thank you very much for helpings to every teacher and everybody. This site is great, very useful. And everybody very helpful.
