| I am about to take some A-Level exams and am still a bit unclear on one bit of terminology as different people/books offer different meanings. When a character misses out some of their speech, e.g. "What you doing here?" (the 'are' being ommitted), should this be referred to as ellipsis or elision? Thanks for any help. |

| Ellipsis is the omission of a word or words. Elision is the omission of a sound or syllable. |
