at a pinch
Dear teachers,
Would you be kind enough to tell me whether I am right with my interpretation of the expression in bold in the following sentence?
Marjorie Ferrar was, indeed, of those who can a;ways get money at a pinch.
at a pinch = in a pinch = in an emergency, when hard-pressed
Thanks for your efforts.
Regard,
V

Re: at a pinch
[ Not A Teacher ]
At a pinch UK (US in a pinch)
means "Something that you can do at a pinch can be done if it is really necessary, but it will be difficult, not perfect, or not what you would really like".

Re: at a pinch
at a pinch = in a pinch = if it comes to the pinch
At a pinch you can do without baccy, but never water .
Now the first thing a housekeeper has to settle is what things are wanted most, and what things can be done without at a pinch.
V.
