    Default Tense usage

    Dear teachers,

Here is an extract from a local newspaper, where it reads:

"Feng wrote Petitions from Jiaobin lu in the years 1860 to 1861. ... In his book, Feng analyses objectively the comparative strengths and weaknesses of China and the Western powers."

(Background information: the author "Feng" had passed away)
I would like to know the reason why we use the present tense rather than the past tense in the subsequent description. Thanks.

When talking about books, we often use the present. It makes sense as the book still says the same things regardless of the fact that the author is long dead- the words don't change.
