Hello
Dear teacher
what is the difference between
1)I dislike doing/to do something
....................................
2)I try to do/doing something
...............................
3) (mike's son) and (the son of mike)
thanks in advance![]()
1. try+ing = doing something to see what will happen.
ex.
I tried apologizing but he was still mad at me!
try+infinitive or try+ing = used when we are making an effort to do something difficult.
ex.
I tried to fix my computer myself but ended up taking it to a technician.
I tried fixing my computer..... ( same idea)
2.The verb "dislike" should be always followed by the ING form of the verb. ( same as enjoy).
ex.
I dislike getting up early!
3. Same thing. Mike's son is far more common though. The other one you will probably find in some
ex.
I dislike getting up early!
3. Same meaning. "Mike's son" is far more common though. You will probably find "the son of Mike" phrase in genealogy records ( sounds a little odd).
