Present simple for the future
What connection, if any, do you all see between the use of the present simple in the sentences below?
The Company is 50 years old next Monday.
Get some sleep, we have a busy day tomorrow.

Both events are seen by the speaker as inevitable future events, the first by logic (or mathematics) and the second by the evidence of their set schedule.

I used to tease, and got in lots of trouble, irrespective of my--to me-- innocently humorous remarks, as you would see if you could find some of my earliest posts. So I've given it up: it obviously doesn't travel well across the internet.
