Please let me know if the sentences mentioned below are correct:
1)students got an opportunity to prove their mettle and won amazing prizes.
2) Students got an opportunity to prove their mettle and win amazing prizes.

The first is correct, since it refers to the past.
The second is only correct in informal English, if you consider got as a contraction of have got. It wouldn't be accepted in exams or other formal contexts.
