pair of braces
Would you be kind enough to tell me whether I am right with my interpretation of the expression in bold in the following sentence?
"I can't make you such handsome presents, Joseph," continued his sister, "but while I was at school, I have embroidered for you a very beautiful pair of braces."
brace = a device that holds or fastens two or more parts together or in place; a clamp; a support that steadies or strengthens something else
braces = suspenders
Thank you for your efforts.
