Default two score times

Hi teacher:

Could you please kindly explain the meanings of the bracketed clauses for me? I am not quite sure.

He studied and knew the development of any new theory. [And from his own pocket he would distribute the devices to his patients himself.] He was by far the first doctor in the town to even think of such. And he would give and explain and give and tell them. [And then deliver maybe two score times a week.]

Thanks a lot.

I'm not sure what the devices are, but I think it means he paid for them- if you do something out of your own pocket, you pay for it.
Score = 2-, so it's 40 times a week.
