    Default use or using

    I run into
I've never heard anyone use that term in real life.

    Is it possible to say

I've never heard anyone using that term in real life.

    Thanks

    Yes, both are correct.

I have two questions regarding that sentence.
Can you please tell me why my versions are probably wrong?
I've never heard anyone uses that term in real life.
    I've never heard anyone
to use that term in real life.

When reading the first sentence, think about this:
I've never heard that anyone uses that term in real life.

I believe the first version could be correct too, but the second one might be wrong.

    Cheers!

The first one would be OK as "I've never heard of anyone who/that uses..."
We don't say, for example, "I heard him to sing" or "I heard him to say", in the same way we don't say "I heard/I've never heard him to use". You can however say "He was heard to use/sing/say etc.
The same applies to the verb "to see".

That longer sentence sounds very Teutonic! So I'm afraid it doesn't justify the shorter one.

'Heard that' tends to introduce a statement: 'Have you heard that they're instituting a pay-freeze?' If you hear someone saying something, you...er... hear them saying it.

    A learner

I've never heard anyone use that term in real life.

I've never heard anyone using that term in real life.

After all I think that the first sentence isn't a pretty good solution because it isn't possible to hear someone's complete use of that term since the speaker uses it from time to time during his whole life. Then the sentence makes no sense. Not applicable in this case.

    but

I have never heard anyone using that term in real life., means for me that
I have never heard any of anyone's particular using the term at the moment what is possible for sure.
