Cool Present simple vs Present continuous

    Hello!!

Is the use of the present simple correct in these cases?:

"If the fabric loosens, you can use these wooden pieces to stretch it."(Would it be better to use the present continuous?).

    Thank you
    W

The sentence doesn't make sense to me. 'If the fabric shrinks, you can...... stretch it.' would make sense.
    Thank you
