| They are both used in everyday speech. Verbs in English are either in the active or the passive, so verbs are one or the other. The passive is less used in informal English, but is still very common- I was born in Dewsbury, my car was stolen- these are everyday passives. Here's a definition of them: http://www.usingenglish.com/glossary/voice.html http://www.usingenglish.com/glossary/passive.html http://www.usingenglish.com/glossary/active.html I hope this helps. What we don't use very much in everday English is the subjunctive mood: http://www.usingenglish.com/glossary/mood.html http://www.usingenglish.com/glossary/subjunctive.html http://www.usingenglish.com/glossary/imperative.html http://www.usingenglish.com/glossary/declarative.html BTW, if you register with the UsingEnglish forum, you can get emails when you have replies to questions and other benefits. |
