need urgent help. who knows God's words and Lincoln's words.
I studied one article today. it is the Second Inaugural Address of Abraham Lincoln. i can not understand these two parts. I need your explanation or paraphrase.
The first part:
"Woe unto the world because of offenses! for it must needs be that offenses come; but woe to that man by whom the offense cometh."
The second part:
Yet, if God wills that it continue until all the wealth piled by the bondman's two hundred and fifty years of unrequited toil shall be sunk. and until every drop of blood drawn with the lash shall be paid by another drawn with the sword as was said three thousand years ago, so still it must be said," The judgements of the Lord are true and righteous altogether."
Please paraphrase these two parts.
I am looking forward.
Re: need urgent help. who knows God's words and Lincoln's words.
P1: The world suffers sorrow because of crimes and inequities. Crimes and inequities always happen, but let the person who committed them suffer.
P2: God is right in championing freedom even if He causes as much pain and sorrow through war and the destruction of the plantation system as he previously did through 250 years of slavery.
Or something to that effect.
