    Default make up

"They never made it up and decided never to see each other again"

I was told that in this senetence it means to end a quarrel. I've been looking it up in a number of dictionaries but haven't come up with that definition yet. The only meaning that comes close to this definition, that just came to my mind, is " they never became friends".

It means that they had a quarrel.

They did not resolve their differences after the quarrel.

They 'did not make up' means that they did not become friends again after they had argued.

And then they did not meet/see each other again.

To "make up" or "make it up" can mean "to become friends again" after a dispute or disagreement. Of course the phrase has several other meanings.

"He made up a story to explain his absence".
"He made up a potion to cure his influenza".
"He was made up when he discovered that they had remembered his birthday".

(This last example is colloquial and means the same as "chuffed" = "really pleased".)

Also, a girl will put on her "makeup" to make herself look prettier, so you might say: "She was made up like a beauty queen".

To "make it up" can have a different meaning. It can mean to create an imaginary story to hide the truth.

Happens when I'm typing too fast. I'm just being inattentive and leaving letters out. I'd better go and get a new key board

Oh, I have a keyboard like that. Luckily, my Apple Mac puts a wiggly red line under my typos and alerts me to them before I click on "Post". ;)

OK, as an author you need that as a handy professional tool. But for learners it is interesting to write a little bit without those conveniences, at least at some stages of learning.

Anyway, since the work exists, "tanks" would not usually be detected by text processors as a typo.

    Very true.

Why did you put an apostrophe in "learners"? It is plural not possessive case!

Oh, it was because my text corrector did not underline it in red!

Sorry about that (and tanks [sic] for the correction).
