Dear teacher.
Please help me with my homework.
Please correct if you find out any mistakes.
" Whenever he goes, his mother goes too."
my work is:
" His mother will go no matter where he goes."
Is it OK when I change from the first sentence into the second without changing its meaning.?
Thanks for your help.
.
If you meant to write 'wherever' in the first sentence, then your second sentence is not bad, but you have changed the tense and lost the togetherness. I think you should try again for a closer match in meaning, Mylevt.
.
Dear Mylevt,
There is a lot of difference in the meanings of the two sentences.
1. "Whenever he goes, his mother goes too." In this sentence, the focus is on 'time'. What is meant is 'his mother goes, too, whatever the time is.'
2. "His mother will go no matter where he goes." In this sentence, the focus is on 'place'. What is meant is 'his mother will go, too, whatever the place.'
Correct answer is "His mother will go no matter when he goes."
I hope I have been of help.
Sunil
Thank Mister Micawber and Sunil Bhasin.
I rewrite my homework like this:
"Wherever he goes, his mother goes, too."
"His mother goes no matter where he goes?"
Is it correct?
Thanks for your correct.
.
You need to add 'with him' to your sentence-- otherwise, they may be going in different directions, Mylevt.
.
Dear Mister.
You are not kind enough to help me.
I don't know where to put "with him".
If you help me, help with all your heart.
Thanks a lot
.
Your note is rather rude, Mylevt, but I shall ignore that.
I spend a considerable amount of time and energy helping English learners for free, as do many of the native speakers here. We do it out of love for our language and a desire to share it. Always make an effort yourself first, and then people will be more willing to help you.
If I give you a hint, then I expect you to do a little work to try to solve the problem. If no work is done, I won't do your work for you.
.
I'm terribly sorry for my impatience.
I never have an intention of hurting anybody especially those who spend almost their time for us who are English beginners without any conditions. In fact, I am grateful for their deed.
Please forgive me. I always want you and others who master English help me. I will think twice before deciding to do somethings. I promise.
MyLevt.
.
So, where are you going to insert 'with him' into the sentence, Mylevt?
.
I will put it behind "goes".
"His mother goes with him no matter where he goes."
But it seems strange to me.
Please help me Mr Micawber.
Thanks.
