Please help. Is the "triggering" can be used in this sentence?

There is not much context but it looks fine to me. Triggering means giving rise to, or setting off.

I immediately thought of the miners in Chile. Is that what it refers to?
I'm not a teacher, but I write for a living. Please don't ask me about 2nd conditionals, but I'm a safe bet for what reads well in (American) English.

AH yes! That would give the context!

I've become obsessed with this story - couldn't go to bed last night until the first miner got to the surface. A lot of prayers are being answered in Chile today.

    Why not?

Even though my dictionary says that "triggering" starts processes that are not welcome I don't agree.
On every oscilloscope, there is a trigger input for starting its time base at the moment when the external signal starts at its channel input so as the external signal can be easily seen on the screen of the oscilloscope. (to synchronise)

    What is bad with that?

    I disagree with your dictionary.
Good things or neutral things can be triggered just as much as bad things.

So I agree with you as you disagree with your dictionary.

In future, litda, please give at least a full sentence containing the word you are asking about.

When you only quote a fragment we are reduced to guesswork.
