| Humor is almost impossible to translate. Poetry is easier but very difficult because too many English words have very different meanings. English is a mixture of may languages and follows different rules depending on the root of the word. French does not pronounce the "e" on the end of a word but German does. It may help to know the root or origin of the English word. The context the word is used in is a clue. To, two, and too are all pronounced the same but have totally different meaings. Some words are spelled the same but may have totally different meaings, not opposite, but differnet. There are more "exceptions to the rule" in English than perhaps any other language. |
