Smile Bond Institute in China

Has anyone ever heard of it, and if so, what have you heard?

I received an offer to teach there but know nothing about the school.

I haven't, but we do have some teachers in China here, so they may be able to say. However, have you checked this site out?

Thanks for the link to school watch. Although there are no references to "bond institute", I did learn 2 important facts. Exit visas are sometimes a dangerous tool against you and there is very limited opportunity to enforce a contract in many countries.

The link http://www.bond-institute.com/ is the link to the school's web site, but I was, and continue to be, concered about the reputation of any school before spending money to go there and giving up a position that I have only to lose everything!

Thank you both for your answers.

I don't think that'd be a very reputable school. After all, the English version of their website tefl-bond.com has been closed down by administration for not having reregistered in time. China is in urgent need of ESL teachers, but oftentimes the schools that are hiring are ill-prepared and deceitful.
Some major ESL schoos in Beijing and Shanghai should be more decent.

I've sent a message to a teacher in China, who might know about it.

Hi,

I haven't actually heard of this school myself, as I'm far away in sunny Dalian. However, as many people know, finding a reputable school in China isn't always an easy task, so I'd suggest you get in touch with the school, and ask if you can be put in touch with some of the FTs already working there. You can then ask the current staff anything you want. If the school refuses to do this, you have your answer.

Good luck!

I'd just like to add one thing, regarding my own experience coming to China. I gave up everything, was promised a lot, but got nothing when I arrived - I was one of the unlucky ones. However, all wasn't lost, and I soon found a better position elsewhere, and haven't looked back.

I guess the point I'm trying to make is, once you're here in China, you can - and will - always find work teaching English. Even if things don't work out as you had planned, all is not lost.

Hope that helps. If you have any further questions, feel free to PM me.
