Red face Searching for a Word

There is a phrase for the shortening of a phrase using the first letter of each word. Example: World War I = WWI

The word that I keep coming up with is anagram when I try to remember. I know an anagram is the reversal of another word and incorrect, but I can't seem to make my brain tell me this answer. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you.
