Eway is an unknown quantity at this point
Default the good to come from public revulsion

Ramsey said he hoped that the first test tube baby would be born so badly damaged that the whole enterprise would be brought to a halt. "I do not actually believe that the good to come from public revulsion in such an event would justify the impairment of that child, " he hastened to add."But then for the same reason, neither is the manipulation of embryos a procedure that can possibly be morally justified -- even if the result happens to be a Mahalia Jackson."

I don't understand sentence : the good to come from public revulsion in such an event would justify the impairment of that child.

And why Mahalia Jackson? What does it suggest by this person?

Default Re: the good to come from public revulsion

Revulsion means, a sudden violent change of feeling (about test tube babies). The assumption is, if babies are born with deformities, the public will be less likely to want to support the research/procedure.

Mahalia Jackson is known as "the World's greatest gospel singer". She's talented, like Einstein is talented. The speaker believes altering an embryo's genetic make up isn't moral, not even if the result produces a talented child.
