Do these mean nearly the same thing?
1. top menu
2. portal site
3. index page
4. home page
5. any other?
Thank you.
Not to me:
1. top menu- the buttons at the top of the page- ours has 'Home', 'Students', etc
2. portal site- a site that is a gateway into an area
3. index page- could be the same as homepage, but could also be the first page os a section (to me)
4. home page- the entry page of a site
1. top menu = Usually refers to the navigation menu at the top of a web page.Originally Posted by Itasan
2. portal site = Often a site such as www.yahoo.com which provides a wide range of varied content is called a portal site. One that tries to be everything to everyone.
3. index page = the main page in a directory of a website. The default page that is shown when a directory is accessed. Often actually called "index", but could also be called "default".
Eg: In the following directory, http://www.usingenglish.com/glossary/, the http://www.usingenglish.com/glossary/index.html page is the index page.
4. home page = The main or primary page of a web site. The main default page for the domain.
Thank you very much, everybody. Very sad to hear about the blast in London. Praying for those who were directly involved. Take care.
Thank you.![]()
