Default Payroll number

Hello,

could someone please explain what a "payroll number" is? This item is included in a text concerning personal data protection. It is one of the items maintained by an employer.

For data processing such as payroll a company assigned employee/staff ids, call them payroll numbers. They may be coded to give information such as cost center, department, pay grade, security clearance. Some countries use social security numbers or tax ids.
