Default clinch and clarify

...the realization of an objective, of a goal, which clinches and clarifies years of effort makes one more humble, more aware of the wonders of Nature...

What do "clinch" and "clarify" mean here?

IMO:
Clinch = get what you want, succeed, through the realisation of the goal
Clarifies = makes sense of all the work
