which sentence is correct
dear teacher,
can i use a complex sentence as a part of the compound sentence. I want to know which sentence is correct,
" I have had enough experience, but, when i ask for a raise in salary, they simply refuse".
or this one is correct?
" I have had enough experience, but they simply refuse when i ask for a raise in salary

The bit I'd change is 'have had' to 'have'. The second runs better than the first to me. The commas in the first are OK, but ...
