Would you tell me whether I am right about my interpretation of the expression in bold in the following sentence?
I’ve seen nurses give my son throat cultures.
throat culture = a microbiological procedure for identifying disease-causing bacterial organisms in material taken from the throat/ a test to find a bacterial or fungal infection in the throat
Thanks for your efforts.
Re: throat culture
You (or your medical dictionary) are correct about the definition of throat culture. However a nurse or doctor doesn't "give" this to someone. More accurately, a swab or sample is taken from the throat and sent to a lab to be grown for study (cultured.)
