One of my kids at school wrote:

My homework and housework have been so heavy that I have often had to work till midnight. ( Really confused with it! )

Thus, I have corrected it to:

I have so much homework and housework to do that, a lot of times, I have to work till midnight. ( Could anyone out there check if this would be a better way of expressing the idea from the above sentence? Please correct if there's any mistakes too, Thank you! ) T_T

You are right that the original sentence is awkward at best.

Try:

• My workload has been so heavy that I have often had to work till midnight.

The second sentence could use a little tweaking. Try:

• I have so much homework and housework to do that I often have to work till midnight.
