tone
Dear teachers,
Would you tell me whether I’ve chosen the proper meaning of the expression in bold in the following sentence?
When you fall asleep, muscle tone almost disappears.
tone = the elastic tension of living muscles, arteries, etc. that facilitate response to stimuli
Thanks for your efforts.
Regards,
V

Yes, that's correct. In general sense, "tone" means firmness or hardness of muscles.
I'm going to Hawaii this summer, so I'm trying to tone up my stomach.
