When someone ask this, what does he want to know?
The date, the day of a week, like Sunday or Thursday, or the special event, like festival or birthday?
Thank you very much!!![]()
Hi,
That is a very interesting question. I think that the answer depends on the complexity of the person and the job/profession of the person. For example: if an employer asks his/her secretary such question--What day is today? the answer will more likely be the displayed version of the day. if you ask a classmate he/she will tell you only the day, because he/she might think that you are expecting it to be thursday or friday, or any day closer to the weekend. However, if you ask someone cultural and artistic the same question he/she will give you the full, extended version of the day...........

Thanks a lot!
Normally, that person will want to know the day of the week. If a person wants to know the date, he or she would ask, "Which DATE is it today?"
