Is this sentence correct?
"when he was ill, his children didn't allow their mother to see him because he would have died"

I'm not sure if I understand the sentence. Do you mean that the mother's visit would have caused his death?

It should begin with a capital letter and end with a full stop.

I was referring to Tolstoy's death. When he was on his death bed in the train station, his sons didn't allow Tolstoy's wife to see him.

In that case you need to say that they didn't allow her to see him because he was dying.
