Which one does 'every plate...' mean?
1. all the plate in the world (general plates)
2. every one of the plate (particular plates)
Thank you very much indeed.
You need logic as well as grammar.
Is it even logically possible that you would ever make a statement about every single plate in the entire world?
I'm not a teacher, but I write for a living. Please don't ask me about 2nd conditionals, but I'm a safe bet for what reads well in (American) English.

Panicmonger,
(1) You have asked a very interesting question.
(2) As you said, "Every child (in the world) needs the love of a
good father and mother."
(3) So -- this is only my opinion -- maybe you could say:
Every plate (in the world) serves some kind of purpose.
(a) Most plates serve the purpose of being a food container.
(b) Some plates serve the purpose of simply being put on a shelf
so that people can admire their beauty.
Every plate (in the world) was made out of some kind of material.
