ego = self-esteem; feeling of your own importance
boost = increase
something is a boost to the ego = something increases in you the feeling of your own importance
what = What (a lovely dress!)

Re: What does this sentence mean?
I AM NOT A TEACHER.
This means that you went from being down to feeling confident.
Ego = Self-Esteem = Confident.
Some people have a really low self-esteem, meaning they are not confident that they “can” accomplish something important in their lives.
So, if someone tells you. “Come on” you can do it! Someone has believed in you. – This is a boost to your self-esteem, to your ego. Someone gave you the opportunity to accomplish something. And you do it! You did it! That is a boost to your ego.
Example.
Carmen, my boss told me that I did a really good job yesterday, you have no idea what a boost to my ego that was, I feel more confident now.
