what does "parole officer" mean?
A parole officer is an officer who is assigned to meet with parolees on regular basis. Every parolee has a parole officer assigned to him. A parolee is a person who leaves prison on parole. That means he is released from prison before the expiry of his sentence (I think he has to do at least 2/3 of his sentence) after being granted the release by the parole board. A parolee has to promise he will abide by certain rules and conditions that the board decides on. A breach of any of those conditions means going back to jail.
