meeting ground
Hi,
What does "meeting ground" mean in this sentence?
It is no accident that several hundred universities and public schools are now offering science fiction courses and discovering that these classes are a meeting ground for the scientist, engineers and the humanists.
Thanks a lot

meeting ground: "an opinion, idea, interest etc that two opposing groups or people share that makes it possible for them to meet and talk".(Macmillan dictionary for advanced learners).(I bolded them myself).
Here "science fiction courses" are the "interest", and "scientists, engineers and the humanists" are the "opposing groups", though not really opposing in this case.
