    Question correct tense

I have another question regarding tenses.
(Have) you (read) the story of sindabad? One day sindabad and his friends (hired) a ship and (went) to an island. The island (was) beautiful. But there (was) no signs of life on it. Sindabad (sat) by a river, (had) food and (fell) asleep.
When he (had woken up) he (found) he was alone. The ship (had sailed) away and (left) him behind. Not one of the men (thought) of him.

We try not to do homework for you. Sorry.

    I'll give you a hint: subject-verb agreement.
