    ***** NOT A TEACHER *****

    Bamdad,

    (1) Key member Engee has given you an excellent answer.

    (2) I only wish to most respectfully remind you of two

    super important points.

    *****
The verb "to be" is very SPECIAL!!!

We NEVER use do/does/did with the verb "to be" (am/is/was/were).

The man was courageous. To make the question, simply move "was" to the front: Was the man courageous? ( Do NOT use do/does/did.)

Today is cloudy. Question: Is today cloudy?

They are good students. Question: Are they good students?

The same rule for the negative of "to be": NO use of do/does/did.

Just add the negative word not:

The man was not courageous; Today is not cloudy; They are not good students.

I am growing younger. Negative: I am not growing younger.

    *****

Here is another point that you must understand: after the words

do/does/did, we ALWAYS use the simple/base form of the verb.

That is, the form that appears in the dictionary. When you look for a

word in the dictionary, you look for eat (NOT eats/ ate/ eating).

What did the man ____ to the doctor?

    (a) The verb is not "to be," so you were 100% correct to use

    "did."

    (b) After do/does/did, we ALWAYS use the base form, so we

    say:

What did the man say to the doctor? (Not "said")

Why did the nurse wheel him outside? (The base form, not the

    past "wheeled.")

    The same for the negative:

    I do not speak Russian.

You did not come to the party last night. (NOT "came")

She does not like mushrooms. (NOT "likes")

The loud thunder did not frighten me last night. (NOT "frightened")
