why is "Angel" pronounced as "an gel" in singing?

I noticed in many songs that the word Angel is pronounced as "an gel" by the singers. Do you know why? Thanks for your help.

I think that you are confusing between the two words "angel" and "angle" which are entirely different in meaning and pronunciation.

In songs, words are often separated into syllables. Therefore the first syllable 'an' might be sung as one note, while 'gel' as another note, thus separating the word.

To supplement Juan's comment: in spoken British English, for instance, the second syllable of 'angel' is scarcely voiced at all. It would be very difficult to sustain it through a note of any length, if you pronounced normally. So you find that BrE singers often extend the second syllable unnaturally and give it almost as much weight as the first.
