Default Proof reading

Hi, I am a freshman here and I want to get ahead in my English writing. Could someone tell me how to improve the skill of proof reading? Thanks very much.

There is not anything I dislike more than proofing my own writing. Have someone you trust proof it. If you cannot do that, put it down and come back to it later. I seem to have such a much harder time finding errors if I write something and then immediately proof it.
