In my opinion first one is correcet but here one Grammer book says second one is correcet. Actually which one is correct

Which grammar book is that? It sounds to me as if it needs to be thrown away.

What reason does it give for the second sentence?
I agree with the others that the first is correct, but I am curious about the grammar book's reasoning for saying this.
