Default what actually does these below sentences mean?

    1) Yesterday I was late to pickup you.
    2) Yesterday I was being late to pickup you.

which one is correct and what does it exactly mean?
And what's the difference between those sentences?

    I'd be grateful to you.

Say: Yesterday I was late (in) picking you up.

"Picking" rather than the bare infinitive "to pick" conveys the continuous aspect. So 2 is wrong.

If you pick someone up, you normally come to take them somewhere in your car.
